Fox cancels "The O.C."
The final episode is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 22, Fox announced Wednesday in confirming "The O.C.'s" not-so-shocking demise after four seasons. The end, after 16 episodes this season, comes exactly 3-1/2 years after the Newport Beach series became a sensation. "This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close,” said creator Josh Schwartz in a statement. “Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, THE O.C. has meant something. For that we are grateful."

Lance Bass and his boyfriend, Reichen Lehmkuhl, have called it quits, People magazine reported on its Web site Monday.

Now begins the post TIFF blues...this has been my favourite festival in the 8 years I've been attending. I saw so many great movies, had so many friends at screenings, and didn't loathe even one movie (granted a couple were pretty bad, but not worthy of a walkout)

And some last minute switching some picks. Based on terrible word of mouth, I traded my Kabul Express tickets (which was reviewed in today's Toronto Star as "the sublimely worse movie at the festival") for a Saturday screening of Glue. I've also decided to not go to the screening of Un Crime. I love Emmanuelle Beart, but here horrible things about the movie and I'm attempting to avoid anything awful in the last two days. So if you want two tickets to Un Crime...they're yours!

You know I always like to see at least one movie with some substantial dirt in it...I thought Short Bus was it...so one particular scene in Red Road caught me completely off guard...talk about dirt yowza!

Only a few more movies to go...can't believe how quickly it all goes...I've spent roughly 50 hours watching movies in the past week and have (mostly) loved each one of them. No true stinkers this year...yet.

I didn't get to attend a whole lot of star studded parties this year (thanks to a lack of invites), but in retrospect it would have been near impossible to top last year's partying with Gwenyth P. My one regret was not skipping the Short Bus premiere for the One X One party...ahh well, live and learn

This is very exciting! I'm actually at home and have a full three hours before my next movie. I was fortunate to sleep in until 10:00 today and I think that was just enough sleep to help me survive the final couple of days of TIFF. Every year I'm reminded how exhausting this whole thing can be...it's 100% percent worth it though.

I just got home from Griffin and Phoenix which gave us all runny noses and red eyes from crying. A 5 kleenex movie without a doubt.

As I sat down to watch Shortbus last night I got a call to let me know that there would be a ticket waiting for me at the One X One event. Shortbus started late and I had too little time to go home and change and make my way to the event at the Carlu...only to find out that Brad Pitt was there. ARGHHHH!!!!!!!

Reichen and Lance Bass sat a few rows behind me at the Shortbus Premiere...I debated taking a picture for Mykeywood, but in the end decided even Mykeywood has some standards :-)

I will blog some more in the morning (give me a break I've spent only one waking hour over the last two days at home!)

Candy...could easily be passed off as a say NO to drugs movie. Quite graphic, quite sad, quite good. If you thought Heath Ledger was good in Brokeback, well he completely tops himself with this one. Broken down into three parts, Heaven, Earth, and Hell, Candy is essentially a love story of two heroin addicts.

This apparent new rule, coming down from the TIFF head honchos, is no photo's allowed in the theatre...which stinks. And as a result my pic of Heath equally sucks.

On the way home I hoped to catch a glimpse of my favourite designer (right now) Christopher Bailey at the Holt's party...but I felt a bit loserish watching people going in, rather than being one of the people going in, so I left before any major action occurred. Note to Holt's, add me to next years guest list, please and thanks!

Just got in from film # 2...12:08 East of Bucharest
It certainly exceeded my nonexistent expectations. A simple story about whether or not a revolution that ousted the country's communist regime had actually occurred. Great performances, and surprisingly funny...no actors or directors in attendance...oh and makes me never want to visit Romania in the winter time.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley...
In all fairness political movement pictures are certainly not my favourite film genre...yet I found this quite captivating/ moving. The Irish accents were very strong so I was forced to concentrate to understand each work spoken for the first 1/3 of the movie. Cillian Murphy is an extremely talented actor and was very convincing in his role as the Irish rabal rouser during the 1920's. A bit shocking that this was the big winner at Cannes (but then again I thought last years L'Enfant was not even close to worthy of that title).

I only have 15 minutes to get from Rescue Dawn to Stranger than Fiction...but I might not have too much to worry about.

Oscar hopefuls such as "Volver," "Babel," "Little Children," "The Last King of Scotland," "Infamous" and "Fur" had movie fans buzzing at the 33rd annual Telluride Film Festival, which wrapped in the Colorado Rockies resort Monday.

One invited film never made it to Telluride: Werner Herzog's recently completed feature "Rescue Dawn," starring Christian Bale as Deiter Dengler, an American pilot whose story was told in Herzog's 1997 documentary "Little Dieter Needs to Fly."
Herzog said he couldn't get the money to free the print from the lab. In Telluride, one distributor reported that he had screened and liked the movie, but the film was so tied up with multiple producers and accounting issues that it would be difficult to negotiate a sale. There is still a question as to whether "Rescue Dawn" will make its scheduled dates at the Toronto International Film Festival, which opens Thursday

Paris Hilton was arrested early Thursday for investigation of driving under the influence, police said.

Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name.

Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erraticly," he said.

"The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," Isabella said, reading a police statement.

Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and released, he said.

Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent

It may have been six years in the making, commanding a budget of £18m and even featuring his fiancée Rachel Weisz in the starring role, but the director Darren Aronofsky's long-awaited new film The Fountain was nevertheless roundly booed when it previewed at the Venice Film Festival.
The reception will prove particularly hard to take for Weisz, who, since she won an Oscar for her role in The Constant Gardener, has become one of Hollywood's hottest properties. However, she was putting a brave face on it when she told reporters: "I think it's wonderful that this film is so different. I would love to work with Darren again."
Weisz, 35, was making her first major public appearance since the birth of the couple's son, Henry Chance, in May. She waved for photographers as she arrived on the Lido by motorboat with Aronofsky.
But those in the audience were left perplexed by her latest film's sweeping ambition, racing across history and 600 years in to the future as one man, played by Hugh Jackman, goes in search of a cure for the cancer that threatens to kill his wife - Weisz's role.
His mercy dash takes him from the conquistadores of South America, via three parallel storylines, into the realms of science fiction as a 26th-century astronaut.
The film was originally due to star Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, but was rescued with the new cast by Warner Brothers after being repeatedly rejected by other studios.

Then Locke inquired, "Oh, so I bet your girlfriend can give us the scoop on why Jennifer Lopez was fired from the movie?" Without thinking, McCartney replied, "She didn't get fired. She's pregnant."

Mel Gibson says he's sorry for being drunk and hating Jews:

LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson issued a lengthy statement Saturday apologizing for his drunk driving arrest and saying he has battled alcoholism throughout his life.

Gibson also apologized for what he said were "despicable" statements he made to the deputies who arrested him early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested," he said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."

Publicist Alan Nierob declined to elaborate beyond the statement.

Gibson, 50, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol after deputies stopped his 2006 Lexus LS 430 for speeding. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said deputies clocked him doing 87 mph in a 45 mph zone.

A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, Whitmore said. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.

The actor was released early Friday after posting $5,000 bail.

Details from TMZ about his DUI

'Once inside the car, a source directly connected with the case says Gibson began banging himself against the seat. The report says Gibson told the deputy, "You mother f****r. I'm going to f*** you." The report also says "Gibson almost continually [sic] threatened me saying he 'owns Malibu' and will spend all of his money to 'get even' with me."

The report says Gibson then launched into a barrage of anti-Semitic statements: "F*****g Jews... The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." Gibson then asked the deputy, "Are you a Jew?"

The deputy became alarmed as Gibson's tirade escalated, and called ahead for a sergeant to meet them when they arrived at the station. When they arrived, a sergeant began videotaping Gibson, who noticed the camera and then said, "What the f*** do you think you're doing?"

A law enforcement source says Gibson then noticed another female sergeant and yelled, "What do you think you're looking at, sugar tits?"

We're told Gibson took two blood alcohol tests, which were videotaped, and continued saying how "f****d" he was and how he was going to "f***" Deputy Mee.'

Suri Cruise has remained out of the public eye since she was born on April 18 – but Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's daughter is "gorgeous," Jada Pinkett Smith tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"She's one of the sweetest babies I've ever met in my life," Pinkett Smith says. "She's an absolute beauty and she's Daddy's little girl."

Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith have visited with Suri twice, both times at Cruise and Holmes's Beverly Hills mansion.

"She's beautiful and they're very happy and they need to be left alone," says Pinkett Smith, who described Suri while talking to PEOPLE about her participation in last weekend's Philadelphia anti-violence event, Party 4 Peace, run by pal Charles "Charlie Mack" Alston. "She's the cutest little baby. She's got a head full of black, beautiful hair."

Desperate Housewives Season 3 spoiler (a death)
We know Wisteria Lane is not safe. Several people have already died there, including Mary Alice in the first episode.
Now the creator of "Desperate Housewives" tells TV Guide he's "building up to a huge hostage situation in a supermarket" for the upcoming third season. And, a leading character will be murdered.
He's not saying who. But, nearly all of the housewives will be part of the story line.

Jessica to Be Rosie's First Guest on the View
Jessica Simpson will appear on the first episode of The View to star new cohost Rosie O'Donnell, on Sept. 5, PEOPLE has learned.

"Rosie herself reached out to Jessica," says a source close to Simpson about the singer-actress's guest shot.

The two have a long history together, going back to The Rosie O'Donnell Show, which aired from 1996-2002, when O'Donnell was riding the crest as TV's highly rated "Queen of Nice."

"When Jessica was just starting out, none of the big shows were interested in her, but Rosie took a chance on her and Jessica never forgot it," says the source.

It wasn't just a break that O'Donnell provided, but encouragement.

"When Jessica was on The Rosie O'Donnell Show years ago," the source went on to say, "Rosie went backstage afterwards and said, 'You're gonna be a star.' "

Adds the source: "Jessica will never forget her."

The View appearance will just follow the release of Simpson's new album, A Public Affair, which hits stores only a week before, on Aug. 29.

O'Donnell, of course, will be assuming Meredith Vieira's former chair on the ABC daytime gabfest, while Vieira becomes the new cohost of NBC's Today show.

(PEOPLE)Lance Bass, the former 'N Sync heartthrob, reveals that he is gay, in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," says Bass, referring to bandmates Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake.

"I didn’t know: Could that be the end of ’N Sync? So I had that weight on me of like, ‘Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did," he says speaking about his sexual orientation for the first time with PEOPLE.

Now, after years of keeping his personal life private, the Mississippi-bred, Southern Baptist-reared Bass, 27, is publicly revealing what he first shared with his friends, then his shocked family.

"He took years to really think about how he was going to tell everyone," says his close buddy Fatone, 29, who was the first 'N Sync bandmate to find out Bass is gay. "I back him up 100 percent." Adds Bass’s longtime pal, actress Christina Applegate: "I've always accepted him as who he is. It's about his own serenity at this point."

Having pursued acting, producing and – most memorably – space flight after ’N Sync went on hiatus in 2002, Bass now is looking ahead to new beginnings. He is in a "very stable" relationship with model-actor-Amazing Race winner Reichen Lehmkuhl, 32, and is developing an Odd Couple-inspired sitcom pilot with Fatone in which his character will be gay.

Mostly, though, he’s just enjoying the relief that comes with the culmination of a long, at times emotionally fraught journey.

"The thing is, I’m not ashamed – that’s the one thing I want to say," he explains of his decision to come out. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I’ve been my whole life. I'm just happy."

As for why he's talking about this now Bass says, "The main reason I wanted to speak my mind was that (the rumors) really were starting to affect my daily life. Now it feels like it's on my terms. I'm at peace with my family, my friends, myself and God so there's really nothing else that I worry about."

Lady in the Water is getting panned by critics (with only a 21% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes), but I really enjoyed it. I consider myself a bit of a movie snob. I tend to stay away from most Hollywood Blockbusters. In fact if you looked at my DVD collection (which is probably close to 500) you probably wouldn't recognize the names of 1/2 of them. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by its' originality and beautiful cinematography. (Word of caution, I also like A.I. which apparently no one else does)

In the August issue of O, the Oprah Magazine, the talk-show host explains that some people misunderstand her close friendship with King.

"I understand why people think we're gay," she says. "There isn't a definition in our culture for this kind of bond between women. So I get why people have to label it — how can you be this close without it being sexual?"

In a long article, Winfrey, 52, and King converse about their 30 years of friendship and "four-times-a-day phone calls." King, who hosted "The Gayle King Show" in 1997, is an editor of O, the Oprah Magazine.

The two friends say they would have no problem telling the public if they were in a sexual relationship.

"The truth is, if we were gay, we would tell you, because there's nothing wrong with being gay," says King.

Says Winfrey: "Something about this relationship feels otherworldly to me, like it was designed by a power and a hand greater than my own. Whatever this friendship is, it's been a very fun ride."

HBO will "definitely do" a new series from "Six Feet Under" creator Alan Ball called "True Blood," the vampire drama he has been developing for the past year

Albrecht also gave a virtual greenlight to David Milch's "John From Cincinnati," a Hawaiian surf-set one-hour that HBO began developing several months ago.

Discussions for a sixth season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" also are under way. "We hoped we'd have something to be able to talk to you about today, but we're working toward having it for 2007," Albrecht said, adding later that the deal was "pretty close" to being done.

"True Blood" and "John" will likely join the sked toward the end of next year. Before that, HBO will send off "Rome" in January and "Sopranos" in March, followed by the second season of "Big Love" and "sexLife," a new relationship skein about couples in therapy from Gavin Polone.

News that "Rome" shuts down after two seasons comes as some surprise -- show is a solid ratings performer and has sold well overseas. But with the commitments to several new drama projects, HBO has deemed "Rome" a two-season-and-out series

The number to remember is no longer Spider-Man's three-day figure of $114.8 million. The new number to hold onto is $132 million, the number recorded over this historic three-day weekend by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Yes, the Disney flick sold an estimated $132 million in ticket sales between Thursday at midnight through Sunday, setting a record that many thought would actually fall much earlier. Dead Man's Chest secured its huge debut gross after opening on 4,133 venues, producing an awesome venue average of $31,938. Spider-Man opened in early May 2002, and earned its $114.8 million from only 3,615 venues, so the webslinger also loses the venue average record, which was formerly at $31,76

Caban, the popular lifestyle spinoff of Club Monaco announced today that it will be closing its doors. According to the Globe and Mail, that the major reason for the closure is because its landlords have decided to use their prime real estate for their own home and lifestyle brand.

Currently, three of Caban's main stores are being housed within the Loblaws megastores. Loblaws recently launched a lifestyle clothing line, Joe Fresh Style and is in the process of expanding this concept to homewares. In an ironic twist, this whole concept being launched by Loblaws is being headed up by Joe Mimram, the original mastermind of Club Monaco and Caban.

According to a spokesperson of Ralph Lauren (who bought the brand in 2000), it will be focusing on "core apparel and accessories business." The Caban stores will be closing by August 31st.

Star Jones Reynolds announced Tuesday morning on The View that she'll be leaving the show in July after nine years as a cohost.
"After much prayer and counsel I feel like this is the right time to tell you that the show is moving in another direction for its tenth season and I will not be returning as cohost next year," she said on the air.
So why is she leaving? Contrary to speculation that she's unhappy about the upcoming addition of Rosie O'Donnell – one of Jones Reynolds’s most vocal critics – to the show this fall, she reveals exclusively in this week's PEOPLE magazine that the departure was not her choice.
"What you don't know is that my contract was not renewed for the tenth season," she tells PEOPLE. "I feel like I was fired." She adds that she was told her contract wouldn't be renewed just days before news leaked that O'Donnell would be joining The View.
Jones Reynolds, 44, was part of the original lineup with Meredith Vieira (who has already departed to replace Katie Couric on the Today show), Joy Behar and show creator and executive producer Barbara Walters.

If you have a chance to see it, make sure you do!

I took my mom for her 65th b-day. We were 4th row from the stage, but front row from the catwalk, which was less than an arms length away. I was as close to Madonna as I had been when I was in the "Pit" during the Re-invention tour. The catwalk is THE place to be.. Loads of eye contact with Madge, finger touching. My cute little mom danced and sang...and I loved the whole thing from start to finish.

Can't wait for the NYC show on the 29th!

I have to work on getting catwalk seats for another show too...that is if I can convince the love 'o my life that oit's worth anotehr $700 + all the travel expenses.

Just got back from the exclusive Holt Renfrew pre-pride party called Blu. Got loads of freebies, martini's, and got to stare at a sea of hot shirtless go-go boy/ model types. YUMMY! Now I just hope my ballot in the "win a trip to St. Barths" contest is the lucky one! The dress code was...as you may guess, blue...I love a dress code.

I saw an advance screening of The Devil Wears prada last week:
Well, I didn't read the book so I can't give you a review comparing the two. It was a cute fluffy movie. I generally loathe Anne Hathaway (even in Brokeback) but she was quite good. Meryl was bang on as the bitchy/ difficult editor-in-chief, when isn't she great though?
I completely stopped paying attention the the movie during Madonna's Jump and Vogue (which were quite lengthy clips)
Some of the people who saw the movie didn't seem to care for it much (mostly everyone at the screening works in some form or another in the Canadian fashion world)...so perhaps it was too close to home or maybe they just thought it was too over the top and unrealistic (but really, what would you expect from a mainstream Hollywood film?)
For what it is, fashion + comedy + 2 Madonna songs + nice shots of New York and Paris...I thought it was entertaining. And Simon Baker with no shirt on, yum!

People and Hello! magazines launched legal action Wednesday against two Web sites that published a picture of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt with their newborn daughter.

Pitt and Jolie sold rights to the images of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, born May 27 in Namibia, through Getty Images photo agency. The couple said all proceeds would be donated to a charity, not yet named.
People magazine paid a reported $4 million for the right to release the pictures in North America, while Hello! obtained British rights.
The embargo on the images was broken when two gossip Web sites posted an apparent image of the front cover of Hello!
Hello! denies leaking the photo, saying its cover was kept strictly under wraps. The magazine said it and People "have taken immediate legal action to prevent publication of its cover prior to it going on sale" Thursday in Britain.
On Wednesday, Pitt and Jolie made their first public appearance since the birth of their daughter, thanking Namibia for the privacy and peace they enjoyed.
"We have been able to have a very special, peaceful time for our family here, exploring your country and more importantly helping with the delivery of our daughter Shiloh," Pitt told a news conference for local journalists at a hotel in the coastal town of Swakopmund. "So for that we are eternally grateful."
Jolie, 30, gave birth to Shiloh Nouvel at a private clinic in Walvis Bay. Delivered by Caesarean section, the baby weighed 7 pounds and was said to be in good health.
Pitt, 42, and Jolie retreated to the southwest African country for government-assisted privacy in the weeks leading up to the birth. They plan to leave in the coming days, without specifying a date.
Jolie, relaxed and smiling in a long black dress, said the couple had sought a place where they could spend some special time with her children, 16-month-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, and 4-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia. Both children had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intention to adopt them as well.
"We both had traveled to Africa and loved this part of the world," the actress said.
